“Where are you from?” This is one of the most common questions we ask people when we first meet them, probably because where a person calls home tells us something about who they are. Often it takes being away from home to fully appreciate how much being home means to us, and at some level, all of us have a longing for home. As human beings, we long to be someplace where we belong. For those who are followers of Jesus Christ, that home is in heaven, but our status as citizens of a heavenly kingdom creates a serious tension, since we live in this world but our true home is in the world to come. So how should we live in light of this tension? What does it look like to live in a place that is not our home? Join Dr. Matt Harmon as he begins a new 6 month series in 1 Peter that will help us answer that question.

The prophet Elijah confronted people in his day who had a “whatever” attitude. They seemed to think that serving the true God of the Bible was okay — but so was worshiping the popular “gods” of that era. Whatever. Elijah called for a decisive confrontation up on a mountain. No more “whatever” attitude. He challenged the religiously ambivalent, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” Join Pastor Larry McCall in 1 Kings 18 as he challenges us to get off the fence.

On the CBS television series entitled “Undercover Boss,” the CEO of a high-profile company went “undercover” by working an entry-level job in his own company. The CEO then tackled the various predicaments that an average employee would face in any given week. After his “undercover” experience, the high-ranking executive was then more able to sympathize with the responsibilities of his employees. In a much more profound way, God entered into our world in order to sympathize with our weakness (Hebrews 4:15). The good news is that God not only entered into our world, but He provided a way for us to enter into His (Gal. 2:20). Join Gabe Tribbett as he leads us through Philippians 2:5-11 and looks at how we are given the opportunity to experience the saving benefits of the gospel through faith and repentance.

How many church splits are actually the result of “contending for the faith” (Jude 3), people standing up for the essentials of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some, no doubt. But, probably not very many. Most church splits are the result of a small band of people taking a minor issue and elevating it to a place of undeserved prominence, then pushing their pet issue to the point of dividing the church. It happens all too often. Join Pastor Larry McCall in Titus 3:8-11 as he talks about the importance of keeping the main thing the main thing at all costs.

Have you ever had an eye opening experience? You know . . . one of those moments when you had a total paradigm shift about life? These can be simple illuminations when we finally “get it” or “it just clicks” – like riding a bike, learning the strategy of a new game, or finally understanding how to maneuver through that difficult math problem! Join Nate McLaurin, CCC’s Executive Administrator, in Titus 3:3-7 as he talks about another significant paradigm shift, one so radical that God describes it as a new birth! This is a radical shift and one that should change how we operate forever!

Have you ever seen a lunar eclipse? That’s when the earth lines up between the sun and the moon and casts its shadow on the moon. For a little while, the moon stops reflecting the sun because the earth is in the way of the sun’s light. How many times do we go through spiritual lunar eclipses? 2 Corinthians 3:18 says that we believers are to “reflect the Son,” Jesus Christ. But sometimes, the world gets in the way, and we don’t reflecting the Son very well. Join Pastor Larry McCall in Titus 3:1-2 as he talks about “Reflecting the Gospel in the Real World.”

We have an inborn aversion to authority. We could probably substitute the word “sinful” for “inborn.” Ever since the Serpent said to Eve, “Did God really say . . . ?” we humans have resisted authority in our lives. And, our American culture not only defends that resistance to authority, but also celebrates it. “Be your own person! Determine what’s right for you. Don’t let other people tell you what to do!” But, what should be the Christian’s attitude toward authority? Join Pastor Larry McCall in Titus 2:154 as we look at this sensitive subject.
